About Hays County Crime Stoppers, Inc.

On June 17, 1981, San Marcos Crime Stoppers was founded.  As Hays County continued to grow, it was recognized that the need to expand the program to cover the entire county was needed.  In 1991, San Marcos Crime Stoppers became Hays County Crime Stoppers to better serve the citizens and businesses of Hays County.  Since the inception of the program, Hays County Crime Stoppers has assisted in more than 840 arrests, assisted in clearing over 980 cases, approved more than $89,000 in reward money for tips, assisted in recovering over $480,000 in stolen property, and assisted in seizing over $13 million in illegal drugs.  This was all initiated by anonymous tips.  Hays County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in the state and nation.

Hays County Crime Stoppers, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization (Tax ID: 74-2202781), and charitable gifts are tax deductible to the fullest extent of federal tax laws.
The executive director for Hays County Crime Stoppers operates this website and the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip services (telephone tipline, web tips, and mobile tips app). While Hays County Crime Stoppers hosts these services, Law enforcement agencies throughout Hays County contribute to and utilize the centralized website and tip-taking resources.  Tips received via the telephone tipline, this website, or the mobile tips app will be directed to the appropriate Crime Stoppers program or directly to the investigating law enforcement agency.  Rewards, when authorized, will be handled by and in accordance with the policies of the Crime Stoppers program handling the tip.

Crime Stoppers accepts tips ONLY by telephone (1-800-324-TIPS), through Crime Stoppers' website (Tip Form), and via Crime Stoppers' P3 Tips App for iOS or Android.

As long as the published Tipline telephone number or website address instructions are used, tips are passed through a software program that masks all sender information. A randomized report number is assigned to each tip so the tipster’s identity is never known to Crime Stoppers or any law enforcement officer/investigator involved in the case.

When Tipsters communicate with Crime Stoppers, following the initial tip submission, whether to provide additional information, check the status of the investigation, or learn if a reward has been authorized, they must use the report number assigned to their tip. Because the process is anonymous, the report number is the only way for Crime Stoppers to locate the tip and provide an update to the Tipster.

Anonymity is not Crime Stoppers’ promise -- IT IS THE LAW. In Texas, a person, including a law enforcement officer, may commit a crime if the person intentionally or knowingly divulges the identity of a Crime Stoppers Tipster. Crime Stoppers needs the information you have regarding crimes and criminals, not your name. To further ensure a tipster’s identity is never known, CRIME STOPPERS PAYS REWARDS ONLY FOR ANONYMOUS TIPS; tipsters who identify themselves are not eligible for payment.
